After a year of spotty blogging here I decided, rather than try and bring this page back from the dead, why not start fresh on a new page all together. New page, new attitude, NEW BABY!! That’s right..Baby #2 (Levi Haddon) has arrived and you can hear more about it HERE!
Thanks for stickin’ with me guys!
While we have not prohibited the television from our daughter, we are fiercely discriminate about what she is allowed to watch and how much/how often. Lately Mirabelle has become a huge fan of some classics from our childhood which we love because, in my opinion, entertainment was just better back then! Her to current favorites are “Muppets Take Manhattan” and the Sesame Street movie “Follow That Bird”. Both are from the early 80’s and if you haven’t seen them before they are definitely worth checking out! Mirabelle sings the songs from them constantly.
We also have been listening to a lot of classic music lately. Ever since the death of Michael Jackson, and then since seeing the movie “This Is It” (which was awesome btw!!!) we have been listening to his music a lot more. Every time we get in the car Mirabelle will shout “I wanna hear Michael Jackson!” shortly followed by “Play Smooth Criminal Momma.”. She can sing along to a lot of his stuff (though when she started singing “I’m Bad, I’m bad, you know it..” we stopped listening to that one!!) including some Jackson 5 songs.
Needless to say, its been fun sharing my youth with her!
Ok no!! This is not some backwards way of announcing that I am pregnant. I have mentioned before wanting to open up a shop and sell handmade goods on Etsy before but I really don’t know what to name my shop. I don’t have a fun enough given name to simply name it after myself so I have been trying to come up with a shop name and I need some help. My husband and I have not seen eye to eye on some of my ideas in this department and you could all really help clear up this issue for me.
So, I want something catchy, too the point, but something that fits the market too. I make handmade, off-the wall, craft goods. Everything from babywearing gear, to clothing, to jewelry, kids products, grocery totes, diaper and wet bags, etc.. these are just some of my numerous ideas. I will probably be eventually expanding to knit products and eventually toys hopefully as well.
So…that gives you a little bit of an idea of what it will be…
My names are as follows:
a) Something along the lines that goes with my already penname of 1urbanmom and the shop name would then be: 1 URBAN (or) ONE URBAN and then each sub division or department would then be ONE URBAN BABY (or) ONE URBAN MOM (or) ONE URBAN KID…ACCESSORY..ETC..
b) My other name idea is a little out there: “The Bird-Fed Society” and the tag line would say “..stray from the mundane”. The thinking behind this is that our general market basically puts forth a standard by which we are forcably asked to fall into line in how we dress…parent..etc.. My offerings would be a little alt-standard so to speak.
c) ??? IF YOU have any fun great ideas for me I would LOVE and appreciate your feedback. Names..words..anything that could prompt me towards making a decision here. I am not planning on opening up shop for atleast another month or more while I build up a starting line of various products. But, I am trying to bring in a little side money and have fun in the process.
Thanks in advance for your input!

Why am I posting a “Sunday Snapshot” on a Tuesday? Well, two reasons..I made to major blogging goofs! First, I am so off this week due to the long weekend that yesterday felt more like a Saturday than a Sunday or a Monday. Also, at the beginning of the month I forgot to post a very important post with pictures so I decided I would go ahead and do that now.
On May 1st, Bill and I went to see the Broadway musical Rent. It was touring through Houston and we pre-ordered our tickets 6 months in advance! This show was pretty special for me because, not only do I LOVE Rent, but it included 3 of the original cast members (Anthony Rapp, Adam Pascal, and Gwen Stewart).
When I was 17, my high school choir took a trip to NYC to perform and discover the city. We were promised 2 Broadway shows while we were there: Les Miserables and Rent! We were so excited to see both performances but after arriving we were told that our Rent tickets “fell through” and we would see a different show instead. I was devastated and have never let that disappointment go. If I had seen the show in New York back in 1997, I would have seen the entire original cast perform it on the Nederland stage.
Regardless, being able to see atleast these three iconic performers travel to Houston and put on Rent was redemption! Bill and I caught the Friday night show. On Sunday night, my friend and I went back to the theatre and stalked the stage door (with about 300 other people) to get our Playbill signed and snag some pictures of the stars. We got there early enough to get a good spot by the door. It was an amazing weekend! I was even brave enough to chat it up with Adam Pascal and Gwen Stewart. Gwen even gave me a big hug!
We were crazy close to the stage door!
Adam Pascal signing our Playbills (he never stopped smiling!)
2nd time I have seen him/met him in person..amazing guy!
Gwen Stewart (she's the one that makes "Season's of Love" the masterpiece that it is!)
Friday night when my husband got home from work Mirabelle was so excited to see her Daddy! We had had a great day together and after spending much of the beginning of the week couped up in the house she was enjoying all the adventuresome fun we had been having on Thursday and Friday together. While I was busy finishing up dinner the two of them headed out for a much appreciated “car ride” around the neighborhood. Bill snapped this gem on his iphone and its most definitely my new favorite snapshot of the week!!
Just a short random post to say, I think I have decided to re-gauge my ears. I let my ears shrink back to their normal size almost a year ago. It really wasn’t a decision as much as it was laziness. I had lost one of my plugs and I didn’t feel like buying anymore at the time so I decided I would just go without for a while. Now that I am back to normal 18g earrings I am really missing my larger plugs and tunnels. So, I think I will start stretching back out this week.
